AMH in collaboration with top Indian medical facility

A new collaboration between American Mission Hospital (AMH), Bahrain and the Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore, in India, will bring world-class medical and surgical expertise to the kingdom.

According to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed recently by the two institutions, the collaboration will boost the knowledge and expertise of AMH’s physicians and surgeons, improve the skills of its nursing staff, and enhance staff training on latest advancements in specialised clinical services. They include, among many others, electroencephalogram (EEG), echocardiography, operating rooms (ORs), and intensive care units (ICUs).

Signed by AMH Bahrain corporate chief executive Dr George Cheriyan and CMC Vellore director Dr Vikram Mathews, the MoU also aims to start new hospital sub-specialties and improve the quality of medical research.

“Doctors from CMC Vellore will come to Bahrain on sabbaticals offering their expertise in treating Bahrain’s patients,” said Dr Cheriyan.

“And our doctors visiting CMC Vellore will also get an enhanced understanding of diseases, which will ultimately improve patient outcomes here”.

Both organisations share the same 120-year heritage as they were started around the same time by the mission boards of the Reformed Church in America (RCA).

While CMC Vellore was founded in 1900 by the American missionary Dr Ida S Scudder, AMH Bahrain was founded in 1903 by another American Missionary Dr Samuel Zwemer.

In 2024, CMC Vellore was ranked as India’s number one medical facility by Outlook ICARE Survey of medical colleges and hospitals.

It was also ranked third by the National Institutional Ranking Framework – Medical, and by India Today (Medical) surveys, and at number four by the Newsweek-Statista survey of World’s Best Hospitals (India).
