Patient safety in spotlight

AN EVENT was organised by American Mission Hospital (AMH) recently to mark Patient Safety Day 2024.

It was held under the patronage of Supreme Council of Health chairman Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

This year’s theme, ‘Improving diagnosis for patient safety,’ emphasised the critical role of accurate and timely diagnosis in enhancing patient safety, reflected in the slogan ‘Get it right, make it safe!’

The event commenced with opening remarks by AMH Group chief executive Julia Tovey.

It was followed by a keynote address by corporate chief executive and chief medical officer Dr George Cheriyan and Shura Council member Dr Jameela Salman, both highly respected healthcare leaders who gave insightful presentations on the importance of diagnostic precision.

They also shared their experiences in improving patient safety within healthcare systems.

Four quality improvement projects were presented, each showcasing innovative strategies aimed at enhancing the safety and quality of care in AMH. The projects reflected the collaborative efforts and dedication of healthcare teams in reducing diagnostic errors and improving patient outcomes.

The event also featured an award ceremony that recognised exceptional contributions to patient safety. Award recipients were honoured with cash prizes, acknowledging their exemplary efforts in advancing quality and safety initiatives within the healthcare sector.

World Patient Safety Day, a global initiative led by the World Health Organisation, aims to promote safer healthcare systems by raising awareness and advocating for solutions to prevent medical errors.
