Residents of Riffa Views harvest 500 palm trees

Families and residents of Riffa Views attended a date harvest event organised by the Riffa Views Owners Association.

Riffa Views harvests around 500 trees during the agricultural season for date harvesting.

“The event aimed to raise awareness among participants about the stages of palm cultivation, growth and harvest,” Riffa Views Owners Association secretary of the board of directors Latifa Isa Albunoodha said in a statement.

“It also sought to educate the younger generation on the importance of the palm tree, which holds significant symbolic value as it is an integral part of Bahrain’s cultural heritage,” she added.

The palm tree has been and continues to be an important part of the local community’s diet, in addition to its medicinal properties and use as a raw material in traditional construction and architecture.

Ms Albunoodha, who is also the Agricultural Committee chairperson, added that since 2013, the property has distinguished itself with the ‘Palm Endowment’ project, a notable charitable initiative introduced by Adnan Yousif Abdulmalik.

As part of this initiative, Riffa Views has dedicated 10 sites for planting palm trees within its various gardens.
