RBH marks World Breastfeeding Week

AN awareness session was organised by the Royal Bahrain Hospital (RBH) to mark World Breastfeeding Week, which is observed in the first week of August every year.

The event, at its facility in Salmaniya, brought together expectant mothers, new mothers, fathers and grandparents. The aim was to provide comprehensive education on the significance of breastfeeding and to foster a supportive environment for families embarking on this vital journey.

The session was led by RBH Family Medicine and Lactation Consultant Dr Fajer Nasser, who highlighted the numerous benefits of breastfeeding and the crucial role of a robust system in aiding mothers during this important phase.

“Breastfeeding infants for the first six months of life is critical for a child’s growth and development,” she said.

“It prevents under-nutrition, promotes brain development, reduces the risk of childhood obesity and acts as a newborn’s first vaccine, delivering essential antibodies and boosting immunity.

“It is a natural practice that significantly impacts the health of both mother and child, and RBH is here to support families every step of the way.”

The RBH reaffirmed its commitment to providing the health and well-being of mothers and infants in the community through education, support and community engagement.
