General Motors Africa and Middle East (GM) has been recognised in Saudi Arabia for its contribution to the development of Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities.
The appreciation came from Communications, Space & Technology Commission, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Saudi Arabia, and Digital Government Authority, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. GM was the only automaker recognised in the connected vehicles category, with OnStar serving as the core proof point.
The recognition highlights the role connected vehicles can play in enabling a smarter, more capable mobility ecosystem. It also reflects GM’s commitment to advancing Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation agenda through technology that enhances customers’ everyday journeys.
OnStar is already bringing that connected future to life. Through OnStar-enabled Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac vehicles, customers can access over-the-air software and cybersecurity updates, in-vehicle apps, remote vehicle access, vehicle insights and connected services designed to make ownership more convenient.
“Being recognised in the connected vehicles category is a meaningful milestone for GM because it reflects the value connected technology is delivering today, not just the promise of what comes next,” said Luis De La Cruz, managing director, OnStar Africa and Middle East. “OnStar gives customers a connected vehicle experience that can continue to evolve over time through software, apps and services. That foundation is essential as we build toward the next chapter of mobility, including hands-free driving.”
GM’s approach is grounded in the belief that the future of mobility must be built on technology customers can trust and use every day. Connected services are the foundation of that progress, enabling vehicles to become more capable over time, keeping customers better informed, and helping deliver support when it matters most.
The next step in this evolution is Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free advanced driver assistance technology. GM is preparing for its phased introduction in the region on compatible roads, subject to regulatory approvals. Super Cruise is designed to support Saudi drivers, and will build on the connectivity, digital infrastructure and customer confidence established through OnStar.
“Autonomy will not arrive as a single feature,” De La Cruz added. “It will be the result of connected services, software, vehicle engineering, safety validation, local infrastructure and trusted partnerships working together. OnStar is how GM is delivering that future in practical ways today.”
GM will continue working with Saudi stakeholders to adapt its global technology capabilities to local roads, regulations and customer needs, helping advance a connected mobility ecosystem that is safe, useful and built for the future.—TradeArabia News Service
