Fatima Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism and Chairperson of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), said Bahrain’s membership of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) would strengthen its global tourism presence and create opportunities for cooperation with international organisations, industry leaders and investors.
Al Sairafi made the remarks during the WTTC’s 26th Global
Summit, held in Valletta, Malta, from October 7 to 9, 2026, bringing together
ministers, government officials, executives and representatives of
international travel and tourism companies.
She said the membership reflected Bahrain’s commitment to
expanding international partnerships and strengthening engagement with the
global private sector.
It would also support knowledge exchange, investment
attraction, tourism destination development and improvements to the visitor
experience.
The Minister added that membership would enable Bahrain to
participate in the WTTC’s specialised initiatives and programmes while
exploring further opportunities for tourism cooperation and investment.
She also highlighted the importance of international
engagement in keeping pace with industry developments, particularly the use of
data, technology and artificial intelligence to develop tourism initiatives and
promote sustainability.
The WTTC represents the private sector in the global travel
and tourism industry, bringing together leaders of major international
companies. Its activities include assessing tourism’s economic contribution,
strengthening public-private partnerships, promoting sustainability,
facilitating travel and providing research and data to support investment and
cooperation. -TradeArabia News Service
