Bahrain's civil air navigation infrastructure came under hostile drone attack during Iran's assault on the kingdom last night, reported BNA, citing senior government officials.
The incident however did not disrupt air traffic operations in the kingdom, it stated.
Bahrain's Civil Aviation Affairs authorities responded immediately in line with approved security and operational procedures, taking measures to ensure the continued provision of air navigation services and the safety of aircraft, stated the report.
All flights, including those transiting the Bahrain Flight Information Region, continue to operate normally, it added.
Also the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned and denounced the repeated Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting vital civilian infrastructure in the kingdom, said the BNA report.
Bahrain views these hostile acts as a direct threat to civilian lives and a flagrant violation of its sovereignty, international law, the UN Charter, and UN Security Council Resolution 2817, stated the ministry in a statement.
It strongly condemned drone strikes targeting civil aviation navigation equipment and over flight air traffic within the Bahrain Flight Information Region. It pointed out that targeting critical navigation systems endangers international civil aviation and was in direct violation of the Chicago Convention and ICAO regulations.
The Ministry lauded the Bahrain Defence Force’s air defences for successfully intercepting the incoming attacks, affirming the kingdom's right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
