Alba secures BSC award

Alba, the world’s largest single-site aluminium smelter, solidified its position as a safety leader by securing the prestigious British Safety Council (BSC) International Safety Award 2024 with Merit.

The award recognises Alba’s exceptional safety performance over the past year. The presentation ceremony took place at the InterContinental London Park Lane Hotel, United Kingdom, during the BSC’s International Safety Awards Gala Dinner.

Alba’s senior safety and health manager Nezar Hameed received the accolade from BSC chief executive Michael Robinson, with Alba’s head of medical administration Zainab Hassan in attendance.

“Safety is not merely a priority at Alba, it’s a collective responsibility,” said Alba chief executive Ali Al Baqali. “A robust safety culture emphasizing teamwork and prioritising safety is ingrained across our organisation.”

“Empowering our employees to prioritise safety in all aspects of their work has established a strong foundation for a zero-accident environment,” Mr Al Baqali added. “This British Safety Council award is a proud testament to the dedication of our entire team.”

Alba’s commitment to safety is further underscored by its eleven awards received from the British Safety Council since 2014. Additionally, in November 2023, Alba became the first smelter in the GCC region to achieve the coveted 4-star rating following a successful Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit conducted by the BSC.
