Nigeria, UAE discuss boosting power generation by 5,000MW

Nigeria is in talks with the UAE on proposals to increase its electricity generation capacity by about 5 000 megawatts with solar power among the key areas of cooperation reported Wam citing the country s power minister. Federal Minister of Power Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe said the discussions also cover financing technical expertise and the change of ideas as Nigeria seeks to expand and strengthen its power sector. Global renewable power generation surges 9.8pc in 2024: Irena

Global renewable electricity generation rose 9.8 per cent in 2024 far outpacing the 1.4 per cent growth in non-renewable generation according to the International Renewable Energy Agency s (Irena) Renewable Energy Statistics 2026. Renewables generated 9 836 terawatt hours (TWh) during the year accounting for 31.7 per cent of global electricity production. The report highlights the scale of the challenge ahead as countries seek to accelerate the energy transition.
