Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has announced the start of production at the expansion of the EGA Spectro Alloys aluminium recycling plant in Minnesota US. EGA had last year acquired 80% of EGA Spectro Alloys. The expansion adds 55 000 tonnes of secondary billet production capacity in the first phase. The ramp-up to full production is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2026. The expansion takes EGA Spectro Alloys total production capacity to 165 thousand tonnes per year of recycled aluminium ingots and billets. Emirates Global Aluminium one of the largest premium aluminium producer in the world has announced the progression of plans to develop the first new primary aluminium production plant in the US since 1980. The plant is expected to have a production capacity of 600 000 tonnes of primary aluminium per year nearly doubling the United States production of an essential material for modern life and for national security. Nissan Motor Co (Nissan) and Kobe Steel have announced that Nissan plans to use Kobenable Steel for Nissan models from January 2023 onwards. Kobenable steel commercialised by Kobe Steel significantly reduces CO2 emissions in the blast furnace process. Emirates Global Aluminium today announced that Al Taweelah alumina refinery in Abu Dhabi has produced one million tonnes of alumina since operations began in April. Al Taweelah alumina refinery is now expected to reach sustained production at its nameplate capacity during the first half of 2020. Starting from this year EGA employees have put forward over 14 000 ideas to help reduce costs and improve processes at the company s worksites. Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) the largest industrial company in the UAE outside oil and gas and Arkan a leading building materials company have agreed to test the use of a by-product of aluminium smelting in Arkan s cement plant in Al Ain improving the environmental performance of both companies. The agreement is a further step for EGA towards re-using all spent pot lining in the UAE said a statement from the Emirati company. As part of the deal EGA will provide spent pot lining (the used inner lining of aluminium smelting pots which is worn out and replaced every four to five years) to Arkan to jointly test whether it is suitable for use as feedstock for Arkan s cement plant.
