AFTER a 5 per cent drop last year the valve industry appears to have stabilised and will probably see some minor growth this year according to the Valve Manufacturers Association (VMA). The association s annual forecast for valve shipments in the US and Canada predicted total industrial valve shipments for 2010 will be 3.855 billion which is slightly higher than the 3.802 billion in 2009 shipments. Between 2009 and 2008 the industry saw its first decline for the decade; however compared to other manufacturing industries the fall was not as severe. The decline of last year followed almost 10 years of steady upward movement from about 3.1 billion in 2001 to the high in 2008 of about 4.0 billion. Korea Gas Corp (Kogas) the world s single-largest buyer of LNG has said it would spend 246.3 billion won ( 236.3 million) over the next five years on gas storage and pipelines. State-controlled Kogas will invest 197.1 billion won by June 2009 to build two LNG storage facilities and gasification equipment the company said. Kuwait Catalyst Company s (KCC) new manufacturing plant has been officially opened. The plant is designed to meet Kuwait s total requirements for catalysts used by its petroleum refining industry. The plant has a production capacity of 5 000 tonnes of several types of catalysts needed for hydrotreating and hydrocracking operations in refining while the national requirement was 4 300 tonnes a company statement said. KCC has also announced that Kuwait s Public Authority for Industry has granted it a licence to produce Helamin water treatment chemicals that are environmentally compatible and corrosion inhibitors.
