The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) has announced that it has completed an energy efficiency retrofit project at Jazan University across the its buildings and facilities.

The project involved implementing 15 key energy efficiency measures, including upgrades to control systems, air-conditioning, and lighting systems.  The scope of work also included replacing chiller control units, optimising air handling unit schedules and installing variable frequency drives (VFDs) to improve operational performance and efficiency.

Through this project, Tarshid aims to enhance energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption across 80 university buildings and facilities in accordance with the highest international standards and sustainability best practices.

On the project, Tarshid Board Member and CEO Waled bin Abdullah Al Ghreri said the company conducted comprehensive site surveys and technical assessments across the facilities within the project scope. The findings highlighted significant opportunities to improve energy performance and reduce electricity consumption across the university’s buildings and facilities.

The findings highlighted significant opportunities to improve energy performance and reduce electricity consumption across the university’s buildings and facilities.

Tarshid, he stated, rehabilitated lighting systems by replacing conventional lighting with high-performance, energy-efficient LED lighting solutions, in addition to installing occupancy sensors and smart motion detectors.

The project targets an annual electricity consumption baseline of 181 million kilowatt-hours (kWh). Following the completion of the retrofit works, annual electricity consumption is expected to decrease to approximately 135 million kWh, representing a targeted reduction of around 25%. Beyond improving operational performance, the anticipated energy savings are equivalent to conserving more than 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent annually and delivering an environmental impact comparable to planting more than 430,000 seedlings each year.

Tarshid was established in 2017 as Saudi Arabia’s leading energy services company. The company supports the energy sector and advances sustainability by integrating energy efficiency, operational efficiency, and clean energy solutions. Through its mission, the company helps achieve the Kingdom’s strategic sustainability objectives under Saudi Vision 2030 by delivering significant energy savings and reducing harmful emissions.
