Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has signed a three-year integrated drilling services contract with Weatherford covering 274 wells in Marmul and the Greater Saqar area, as part of efforts to increase production and improve operational efficiency.
Under the agreement, Weatherford will drill oil production
and water injection wells through a phased programme designed to improve
execution, planning and the allocation of drilling rigs and resources across
the targeted fields.
PDO said the contracting model is expected to reduce costs
by approximately 20 percent compared with conventional pricing models, while
strengthening cost control and creating clearer accountability for execution
and results.
Dr. Aflah Said Al Hadhrami, Director General of Petroleum Development Oman, said: "The company's ability to efficiently and responsibly grow production is fundamental to maximizing value from the Sultanate of Oman's hydrocarbon resources."
He added that the agreement represents another step toward
production growth as a key pillar of Oman’s institutional transformation, while
PDO remains committed to enhancing in-country value, developing local
capabilities and investing in Omani talent.
Girish Saligram, Chief Executive Officer of Weatherford,
said the contract reflects the company’s commitment to operational excellence,
innovation and sustainable value creation.
He said Weatherford would support PDO’s objectives to
improve production efficiency and ensure sustainable field development, while
building local capabilities, developing Omani talent and expanding
opportunities across the local value chain.
Saligram added: "Weatherford will remain committed to execution efficiency and maximizing the impact of in-country value, thereby contributing to supplying the energy sector in the Sultanate of Oman and supporting national development targets."
