The Kingdom of Bahrain's digital transformation journey and the key initiatives have enhanced the efficiency of government services while strengthening the country’s position in relevant international digital government indices, said a top government official at the ongoing Bahrain Smart Cities Summit 2026.
These achievements have been realised in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which have contributed to building an advanced integrated national digital ecosystem that supports sustainable development,” remarked Ali Abdulaziz Al Janahi, the Deputy Chief Executive for eTransformation at the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA).
Al Janahi was taking part in a dialogue titled "Beyond Digital Government: Building an Integrated National Digital Ecosystem," held as part of the 9th Bahrain Smart Cities Summit 2026, organised under the theme "City Visions: Where Sustainability, Innovation and Smart Transformation Meet."
During the session, Al Janahi said Bahrain had developed an integrated national digital ecosystem built on connected services, shared digital infrastructure and a cloud-first strategy.
“The continuous development of the National Portal (bahrain.bh), government systems, and enhanced digital integration among government entities, together with the adoption of the Cloud-First Policy, have formed key pillars of Bahrain's digital transformation journey. Combined with the Kingdom's national eGovernment strategies and program, these efforts have supported the implementation of the Kingdom's eGovernment program, accelerated digital transformation, enhanced the efficiency of government services, and strengthened integration across government entities,” he stated.
The iGA official pointed out that these efforts have reinforced Bahrain's regional and international standing, with the Kingdom maintaining advanced positions in international reports such as the UN eGovernment Survey, where Bahrain has been consistently ranked among countries with a Very High eGovernment Development Index (EGDI) since 2010.
In addition, Bahrain also ranked 2nd regionally and 15th globally among 197 economies in the World Bank's GovTech Maturity Index (GTMI) 2025, he added.
Al Janahi said Bahrain had reached an advanced stage of digital maturity through the development of an integrated national digital ecosystem built on connected services, shared digital infrastructure, and data-driven government, ensuring a unified, user-centric digital experience.
“Our National Portal (bahrain.bh) currently provides more than 800 integrated eServices, in addition to a range of user-focused features, including the Personal User Profile and Favorite Services,” he stated.
Al Janahi highlighted the National Strategy for Mobile Applications and the national direction towards consolidating access to government services through a limited number of integrated government platforms.
“In line with this approach, Bahrain has implemented the Government's strategy of merging mobile applications by offering three main applications: MyGov for individuals, which represents an important step towards delivering a more seamless and integrated digital experience for citizens and residents through a single platform that provides efficient access to a wide range of government services; Al Tajer App, designed for the business sector; and the Bahrain App, dedicated to tourism and visitors,” he noted.
He also highlighted Bahrain's digital infrastructure readiness and its role in ensuring the continuity of government services during various circumstances and crises.
He emphasised the Kingdom's success in maintaining uninterrupted digital services throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and highlighted the BeAware Bahrain app as a successful national model for leveraging artificial intelligence and data analytics while demonstrating a high level of integration among government entities.
On its future priorities and opportunities, Al Janahi affirmed that Bahrain continues to develop its digital ecosystem by leveraging data and AI technologies to deliver smarter and more proactive government services, while further strengthening the Kingdom's position as a regional hub for digital innovation.
According to him, Bahrain remains committed to developing its digital infrastructure, empowering national talent and strengthening public-private partnerships to support the development of smarter cities and a more competitive digital economy, ultimately delivering advanced digital government services that are seamless, efficient, and fully integrated. Concluding the session, Al Janahi said the summit provides a platform to exchange expertise and showcase Bahrain's digital initiatives, adding that such efforts support the kingdom's ambition to strengthen its position as a regional and international centre for digital transformation and smart cities.
