Tourism royalty from across the globe convened in Bahrain for the World Travel Awards (WTA) Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2025 to recognise the travel organisations pushing the boundaries of excellence and innovation.
Winners at the VIP
reception included Maldives, voted âWorldâs Leading Destinationâ, and Athens,
named âWorldâs Leading City Break Destinationâ. Chile claimed âWorldâs Leading
Adventure Tourism Destinationâ.
Tanzania took âWorldâs
Leading Safari Destinationâ, whilst Jamaica was recognised as âWorldâs Leading
Cruise Destinationâ.
Hospitality winners
included The St. Regis The Palm, which received the âWorldâs Leading Hotel
Service Awardâ, and Katara Hospitality claiming âWorldâs Leading Hospitality
Development Companyâ.
Jumeirah Thanda
Island, Tanzania emerged triumphant as âWorldâs Leading Exclusive Private
Islandâ.
In the newcomer
categories, Marriott Marquis Dubai Creek saw off a strong field to emerge as
âWorldâs Leading New Hotelâ.
In neighbouring Oman,
The St. Regis Al Mouj Muscat Resort collected âWorldâs Leading New Resortâ.
The strength of
Arabian aviation was highlighted with significant wins for Qatar Airways
(âWorldâs Leading Airlineâ and âWorldâs Leading Airline - Business Classâ);
Etihad Airways (âWorldâs Leading Airline â Economy Classâ, âWorldâs Leading
Airline â Customer Experienceâ and âWorldâs Leading Airline Lounge â Business
Classâ); and Emirates (âWorldâs Leading Airline â First Classâ, âWorldâs
Leading Airline Brandâ and âWorldâs Leading Airline Lounge â First Classâ).
Star Alliance also took to the podium to collect âWorldâs Leading Airline
Allianceâ.
Meanwhile, AirAsia
picked up double honours, winning âWorldâs Leading Low-Cost Airlineâ and
âWorldâs Leading Low-Cost Airline Cabin Crewâ. TAP Air Portugal claimed
âWorldâs Leading Airline to Africaâ and âWorldâs Leading Airline to South
Americaâ.
The gala evening
marked the climax of WTAâs Grand Tour 2025, a global search for the best travel
and tourism organisations, with regional ceremonies staged in Tanzania, Cancun
(Mexico), Saint Lucia, Hong Kong, Sardinia (Italy) and Dubai.

Waldorf Astoria Cairo Heliopolis, which emerged victorious as âWorldâs Leading
City Business Hotelâ. Greece also enjoyed a strong showing, with Ikos Resorts
winning âWorldâs Leading Luxury All-Inclusive Resort Brandâ and Sani Resort
taking âWorldâs Leading Family & Beach Resortâ.
With its timeless
elegance and world-class facilities, Cannes was named âWorldâs Leading Festival
& Event Destinationâ, whilst Madrid collected âWorldâs Leading Meetings
& Conference Destinationâ. Portugalâs Dark Sky Alqueva received the
âWorldâs Responsible Tourism Awardâ.
Destinations to win their first ever World title included Vietnamâs Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark, Tuyen Quang (âWorldâs Leading Regional Cultural Destinationâ); Spainâs Huesca La Magia (âWorldâs Leading Regional Adventure Tourism Destinationâ); and CancĂșn Convention & Visitors Bureau (âWorldâs Leading City Tourist Boardâ). -TradeArabia News Service
