Bahrain Airport Services (BAS), through its Aircraft Engineering Training Centre (BAETC), has signed a MoU with Bahrain Polytechnic to launch a bespoke Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng) in Mechanical Engineering Programme for EASA Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance qualification holders.
The co-operative agreement was signed at the Bahrain Polytechnic campus in the presence of Eng. Mohamed Khalil, the Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Airport Services; and Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Polytechnic.
This landmark partnership introduces a customised Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering Program, designed specifically for the Aircraft Maintenance qualification holders who wish to advance their academic and professional careers.
Through this program, BAETC graduates and certified aircraft maintenance personnel can build on their vocational training and obtain a recognized engineering degree from Bahrain Polytechnic, bridging their technical expertise with advanced mechanical engineering principles.
Spanning five academic semesters, two summer terms, and a bridging Semester, the program ensures a smooth transition into university-level studies while maintaining flexibility for working professionals, with classes offered in the evenings or on weekends. Graduates will gain a comprehensive foundation in mechanical engineering design, analysis, and applied technologies, expanding their professional capabilities in the mechanical and industrial sectors.
Through this initiative, both institutions reaffirm their commitment to Bahrain’s national education and aviation strategy, ensuring local talent is empowered with advanced academic qualifications and career pathways in the aviation industry.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Catháin said: "This partnership reflects Bahrain Polytechnic’s ongoing commitment to aligning education with the evolving needs of the industry. What makes this program distinctive is that it has been custom designed in collaboration with BAS Aircraft Engineering Training Centre (BAETC) to meet the specific requirements of the aviation sector."
"By providing BAETC graduates and aircraft maintenance professionals with a pathway to obtain a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, we ensure that Bahrain continues to develop highly skilled professionals equipped with the practical expertise and academic knowledge needed to advance the nation’s aviation industry," he stated.
On the key tieup, Khalil said: "Through this, we are building a bridge between vocational expertise and academic advancement, empowering our graduates and the aircraft maintenance personnel to pursue higher professional opportunities."
"The program represents a shared vision to elevate the standards of aircraft maintenance training and education in Bahrain, ensuring that our graduates are equipped with the technical acumen and analytical skills demanded by the global aviation sector. As a national partner, we are proud to play an active role in developing the next generation of industry leaders," he noted.
The new programme will play a vital role in strengthening Bahrain’s position as a leading hub for aviation training and engineering expertise in the region, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
