Alba promotes 2,082 staff over past 5 years

Alba, the world’s largest single-site aluminium smelter, announced it has promoted 2,082 employees over the past five years as part of an ongoing commitment to developing its national workforce.

The company held a special ceremony yesterday to celebrate the promotion of its national cadres, including 218 employees who were promoted in 2024.

The event was attended by Alba chief executive Ali Al Baqali, executives, management teams and representatives from the two labour unions.

On the occasion, Mr Al Baqali said: “Over the past five years, the Bahrainisation rate has jumped to 87 per cent of Alba’s total workforce, which today stands at 3,179 employees. During this period, the company also hired 412 Bahrainis and prepared them to be active contributors in the national economy.

“We are committed to investing in our national cadres by empowering them, equipping them with necessary skills and opportunities to excel and drive Alba’s future growth.”

Since 2020, Alba has enrolled more than 1,400 national employees in professional development programmes implemented directly by the company, such as the Training and Development Programme (TDP) for supervisory level staff, and the ‘Al Jisr’ and Skill Matrix Programmes for non-supervisory employees.

Additionally, during the same period, Alba supported 241 Bahraini employees in pursuing academic studies in diploma, bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programmes in collaboration with local and international universities.
